Trim Levels
Our new Volkswagen inventory offers three trim levels. The Taos S is the entry-level package. The SE offers some tech and comfort upgrades, while the SEL is competitive with many luxury SUVs. The S and SE come in FWD and AWD variants, and the SEL is only available in AWD.

VW designed the Taos as a compact SUV, but it offers a spacious interior. The Taos sports the brand-defining straight grille from Volkswagen. It has a large, geometric assembly with an air dam, bumper, and fog lights. Chrome accents give everything a look of luxury.
Its profile is curvy enough to avoid looking boxy. The lower panels and wheel wells feature a protective layer that gives the Taos a bit of an off-road look. With a spoiler over the rear gate, the Taos has a sportback vibe, too. Drivers can pick from 17-, 18-, and 19-inch wheels. The SUV also has 7.6 inches of ground clearance, which is good for most urban and basic country driving needs.
Interior
The interior strikes the right balance between linear and curvy. Volkswagen wasted little space, ensuring plenty of legroom for you and your companions. The soft edges of the dash and console make the linear design approachable and modern without being too futuristic. Clifton drivers will appreciate the large infotainment display and instrument cluster.
High-quality stitching elevates the seating. Cloth, leather, and leatherette seating options are available. You also can choose a gray and black, French roast, gray, or black color scheme. The Taos seats five people with plenty of room. Bucket front seats are standard. Its rear cargo capacity is 27.9 cubic feet, and you can expand that to 65.9 cubic feet when you fold the rear seating row.
Performance
All variants of the current VW Taos come with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine. The turbocharged four-cylinder engine system produces 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.
Additionally, the Taos is available with a front- or all-wheel drivetrain. The FWD uses an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the AWD has a seven-speed automatic transmission. It has an independent front suspension that offers a smooth ride. The EPA-estimated fuel economy for the FWD version is 28 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. In AWD, the Taos still gets a respectable 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.
Tech Features
VW installed a 6.5-inch infotainment display as the standard screen for the base package, but you can upgrade to an eight-inch screen. Four-, six-, and eight-speaker audio systems are available. You also can upgrade to a premium Beats sound system. USB connectivity is standard, and all versions of the Taos are compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Safety
Every Taos uses a four-wheel ABS that includes automatic emergency braking assistance. All axles use disc brakes, too. Plus, the Taos can intelligently distribute brake pressure to maximize safety. The compact SUV also has excellent traction and stability control for your Clifton, NJ adventures.
